More and more people visit forests day by day.
Why do so many people visit forests? Maybe because the forests offer green resting places, cleanse nature of people, give psychological security, and heal their minds.
That is why the forests are highlighted as a new cultural resource.
Today, harmony of nature and culture is suggested as a new paradigm. It is to solve environmental problems raised as a priority of all questions before all mankind.
It's because the culture in which both nature and mankind coexist can possibly enter the everlasting society while the one in which only mankind survives by destroying and exploiting nature cannot.
The values of forests are newly acknowledged as the last fort to protect diversity of plants on earth and the place for harmony of nature and mankind.
In other words, the forests should be utilized as a space to experience culture harmonious with nature where internal experiences are considered important.  Or they should also be used as a space to practice new ethics such as environmental ethics as well as an educational field to prevent destruction of environment and ecosystems and as a practical space to practice nature preservation ethics.
Indeed, a lot of forests have been destroyed and valleys have been polluted.  More serious problem, however, is that the 'beautiful land of Korea' has disappeared in our thoughts.  It means that we do not consider that our forests are beautiful any more and have lost composure and attitude of mind to appreciate their beauty.
Therefore, activity programs to experience various features of forests will be the only solution to overcome emotional poverty veiled behind material wealth.  They will also offer the opportunity to establish and succeed to our cultural identity through smell, sound, and touch in our forests.  Through those activities we can acknowledge our ancestors and hometown which are easy to forget.
Also they allow our children who get farther from nature to directly or indirectly experience and understand natural environment.  They also provide opportunities to have correct understanding of all objects in nature and to promote understanding of principles of nature and respect of life as well through easy and various games.
