| Nutmeg trees inhabit in the south of Naesangsan (Mt.) in Korea and Japan.
For the beautiful figure of the tree, it is usually used as an ornamental
tree, its fruit is used as an vermicide, a stool softener pill or oil.
The nutmeg tree in Gongyang-myeon Sacheon is supposed to be about 300 years
old and 21m in height and 3.8m in girth and branches spread to all directions.
It is said that the tree was located in front of the main entrance of
the government building of Gonyang-gun in the Joseon dynasty, and now it stands
in Gonyang-myeon office. Although originally it has been known as a female
tree, male flowers bloom on some branches recently. There is a small male
tree about 10m apart from it.
As the nutmeg tree in Gongyang-myeon Sacheon has been taken care of by our
ancestors for a long time and is very valuable as cultural and biological material,
it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
