Deokhangsan (Mt.) is 1,070m above sea level and covers parts of Singi-myeon, and Hajang-myeon, Samcheok. Features of the east and the west side of the mountain are very different.
The west side has a gentle slope while the east is continuation of sheer cliff. You can see an observatory if descending a little from Jaamjae (Ridge) to Jahagol (Valley). Looking at Deokhangsan from the observatory reminds of a great canyon. The surface of the rock is even as if it were cut on purpose. Chotdaebong (Peak) reveals itself in front of Mireukbong (Peak) via Jaamjae and canyon. It looks as if it were sitting separately on a shelf. Front side is a very pointed peak and the back is a precipitous grey cliff. Sitting all alone, it creates a great view but the beauty of Chotdaebong radiates on a ridge connected with unnamed peaks in the middle of Jaamjae. Had it not been harmonious with the scenery around, the present beautiful shape can't be imagined. Ascending along a brook via villages you'll meet Hwanseongul (Cave), the biggest cave in Korea. Located 840m high above sea level, it is another spectacle born of Deokhangsan and Jigeuksan (Mt.)
