Hwaaksan (Mt. 1,468m), the best out of 5 mountains of Gyeonggi, rises high at the diverging point between Gangwon-do and Gyeonggi-do.  It is the highest peak in Gyeonggi-do.  Centering Hwaaksan, Maebong (Peak) is in the east and Jungbong (Peak) is in the west, and they are called Samhyeongjebong (Peak, Three Brothers Peaks).  Water originating from here forms Hwaakcheon (Stream), becomes the mainstream of Gapyeongchoen (Stream) and then flows into Bukhangang (River).  As the surrounding area of the summit is designated military zone, it is prohibited to enter there.  So we should only be satisfied with looking up the top nearby.  Now Jungbong (Peak), 1km from the top to the southwest, serves as the top of Hwaaksan (Mt.).  On the main ridgeline, you can look down the area of Gapyeong, Chuncheon, which enhances fun in hiking.
