Unaksan is also called Hyeondeungsan (Mt.).  It originated from the Buddhist master of the country Jinul during the reign of Heuijong (King) in the Goryeo dynasty.  He named it when seeing a stone lamp still lit at a temple's site where remained nothing but a foundation stone.  According to another report, he saw a light to the east for 3 weeks when he was at Wontongam (Temple) in Dobongsan (Mt.).  So he went there and found the light from the stone lamp beside Gwaneumdang (Shrine) in rank weeds.
