Jangansan (Mt.) is located 30 li (traditional distance unit of Korea, 1 li=400m) from Jangsu-eup toward the east, 10 li from Gyenam toward the southeast, 20 li from Janggye toward the south, and 50 li from Beonam toward the east.  Its another name is Yeongchwisan (Mt.).

It is 1,237m high and not very large.  It is located at the center of four myeons; Jangsu, Beonam, Gyenam, and Janggye.  As this mountain stretched from Baekdu Daegan Mountain System takes up the largest size among eight suzerain mountains in the whole country and is proud of its renown rather than its majestic appearance, recognition of this mountain should be reestablished.

People only know that Jirisan (Mt.) is the guardian mountain of Honam not understanding geographical position.  It is the suzerain mountain in Honam because it is a towering peak of Honam-jeongmaek.

Considering its right position, you can understand how important it is as a strategic zone.  Putting all branches of its mountain ranges together, Jangansan (Mt.) takes up 1/4 of the whole country.  If arranging clearly its origin, branches and three rivers from watershed, you can understand that Geumgang (River) flows toward the northwest, Seomjingang (River) toward the southwest, and Nakdonggang (River) toward the southeast from Jangansan (Mt.).

Let's record in detail about its origin; from where and how it derives from its origin, how it is connected with its origin, and what relation lies with those three rivers mentioned above.

From Baekdusan (Mt.) to Yeonjibong (Peak), from Yeonjibong (Peak) to Nohangnyeong (Ridge), (Sambaek-ri, Musan region in Hamgyeongbuk-do),

Susallyeong (Ridge) and Hwangtoryeong (Ridge) are formed 380 li away from Gapsan to the east, toward the northwest from Nohangnyeong, (Peak).  And again, toward the west, Huchiryeong, and Taebaeksan (Mt.) is located 100 li away from Bukcheong to the north and Hwangchoryeong is located 300 li away from the northeast of Hamheung.
