It is a mountain which holds the spirit of taoists and represents Gwangju.  It is a noted mountain in Gwangju, Jeonnam.  It is located on the eastern edge of Gwangju-si, a part of Nam-myeon, Damyang-gun and a part of Yiseo-myeon, Hwasun-gun.  It is 1,187 m above sea level.   Light pink royal azaleas and azaleas which flourish in spring, maples and eulalia flowers in autumn, and snow flowers in winter offer great sceneries.

Mudeungsan (Mt.) also has great significance for the spirit of our ancestors who were loyal to the nation and still alive in their art.  Uncountable heros and loyal troops trying to save the nation had trained their wills here.  Painters Oh Jiho and Heo Baengnyeon cultivated their artistic skills.  And also proud wills of Sarim (classical scholars) have been alive throughout.  On the ridge there are lots of temples and each one holds numerous legends and valuable cultural assets.
